Step-by-Step Guide
Gather Supplies
Denim/Fabric
Bone template (print clipart or template from web)
Sewing Machine with bobbins
Chalk/ pen/ marker for tracing
Cut out bones from denim
Trace bone pattern
Need 2 full bone pieces per toy
When making a toy the approriate size, be sure to take into account the final product will be smaller due to seam allowances
Add personalization such as initial or full name embroidered
Using a zig-zag stitch on a basic sewing machine or full embroidery setting on a more advanced machine
Paint using non-toxic paints
Add patch preferably with stiching rather than ironing
Pin right-side-in together and sew
Line up the two bone pieces with the right sides inside
Pin along the edge with pins facing same direction
When starting the sewing, anchor the beginning
Sew along the edge maintaining consistent seam allowance
Leave about 1-2 inch gap
Anchor the end of the stitch so it does now unravel
Invert sewed bones putting the right-side out
Pull the fabric right-side out through the small gap left when sewing
The smaller the hole, the harder to pull through but the less that will need to be handsewn shut
Stuff and sew closed - DONE!
Stuff with filling of choice such as polyfil, cotton, crinkle
Can add a dog toy squeaker if desired
Hand sew the remaining gap closed using an invisible stitch
Optional: put final product through a wash cycle to remove small fibers, any pen/marker, and test stitching integrity.
ENJOY!!
